How I'm Challenging Myself in 2015

Post image

So this will be my first monthly update for you guys. I intend to keep these short and sweet so I can give a heads up on what's planned in the next month and what's changing.

2015 Challenge

I've decided to take on the challenge of growing this blog to 100k monthly visitors by the end of the year. That's roughly a 200% increase on where I am today. Yes, it's a big ask, but you have to push yourself right?

I want to keep you updated on this every month, showing my progress with visitors and site changes. This will not only help me, but it will show you what I've done to grow the readership and if anything has hurt me along the way.

So far the month of May hasn't been great, mainly due to the lack of content updates in the previous year. But that's all about to change.

My Roadmap

I have some exciting tutorials lined up to release very soon. I also intend to make some of these both video and written tutorials. In the works I have -

  • PHP & jQuery/Ajax comment system - in progress
  • PHP OOP User System
  • PHP & jQuery/Ajax search
  • Resource guide - my recommendations for web essentials
  • SEO tutorials
  • Content tutorials
  • CSS resource guide
  • HTML resource guide

That's a lot of content I need to get creating. I can't wait to share it all with you. If you have any special requests for other tutorials then please leave a comment below, or contact me.

Site Changes

You may have noticed a few changes in the past few weeks to the site, and trust me, there's many more on the way.

Email Subscriptions

People have been asking me for a mailing list, so I created one. Now you can add your email address to my mailing list and you'll receive email notifications when I post new content.

If you haven't signed up yet then simply add your email to the form below.

About Me

I was browsing the site one day when it hit me; this site is all about me but there's very little of me on it. Well that's now starting to change. Check out my new about me page. Not only can you see my pretty face and read about my story, but you can stay updated on my 2015 challenge.

About pages aren't only pages to self indulge, but they help your readership connect with you, which builds trust. This is the first step towards my 2015 challenge.

Looks Aren't Everything - Layout

What you may also notices on the about me page is the improved layout design. I've opted for a more open feel with more padding and bigger margins.

Over the next few weeks I'll be rolling this out across the whole site. You'll first start to see it on the new pages, then I'll start improving the old ones.

Under the Hood

My current system is in need of a spring clean to speed it up. I'm working on improving the back-end code and then publishing the new framework on Github for others to use. This could even become a tutorial!

I just want to say thanks to you guys for all the support and feedback so far. I can't wait to put all these plans into action over the coming month.
